As we were enjoying our show....... Bumper (our oldest cat at 3 years) was making a ruckus in the kitchen!! He is a big stealthy cat; his neck looks like a line backers neck (kitty style)...

Now when I say he was making a ruckus - I mean he was making a ruckus. The yowls, and other noises coming from him were - WAAYYYY beyond any fight I had ever heard him in OR for that matter ANY cat in!

My sister got out of bed and Gavin went dashing down stairs to save...what ever needed saving!!

When all of the sudden I hear them laughing downstairs...a bit hysterically~ Curiously, I sit upstairs waiting to hear WHAT happened....(I am still recovering in bed upstairs)

What happened, was this..... Gavin went downstairs following the noise - which lead him to the refrigerator - More specifically behind the refrigerator. It appears that our big macho cat was having a fight with the refrigerator...the problem was the fridge was winning!!

How is that you may ask???? Well, it seems as though he was getting shocked every time he batted the back of the fridge!! He would bat the fridge, it would shock him, he would bat the fridge..... it would shock him - as this cycle continued - he got louder and more.....pissed off!! SO the battle was engaged and poor Bumper was getting whipped - or should I say jolted.....

Gavin intercepted and saved this viscous cycle that had begun - by swatting the cat out from behind the cursed fridge....

Poor Bumper - he curled up on Gavin's backpack and began to lick his paws.... He may of of lost another one of his 9 lives!!.....but he IS still alive AND ... We figure he left us with another "Bumper Memory" AND a missed opportunity to make $10,000.00 from one of the best Americas (Mexico's) Funniest home videos!!

Black Friday ~ Mexico Style

Hmmm....Black Friday ~ Mexico Style??? There are so many things that I see here in Mexico - and think "Man if Mexico only knew, NOT to follow the practices of many countries in the world.... they would be MUCH better off!" For instance the chemicals in the fields, poisoning us...

ANYWAYS..... I see that some of the Mazatlan stores are falling suit and offering Black Friday deals all weekend! I think this might be a great way to stimulate the economy a bit here too! I guess all " borrowed ideas or methods" are not bad

Happy Shopping !!

For More Information~ Black Friday ~ Mexico Style

Doctors Gave Me a Ride

I was speaking with a dear friend this weekend about when the doctors gave me a ride and he reminded me that this was not something he ever heard of or experienced in the states. I decided that what I thought was "nothing out of the ordinary". Is truly a blessed gift and I feel a little sad that I have not shared this with you before.

Back in September we had a client here, for some dental work. With out getting into the details - there was problems in the lab and her new teeth were not going to be ready on time.

This was a problem as she had purchased her tickets to fly home already. LONG story short - the dentist we used, not only paid for her "change fee" for her flight, he also offered to put her up in a hotel (for the extra night), and he gave her a ride to the airport!

Well - I am not sure about you - but in my life I do not recall ... a doctor (or dentist) EVER, personally driving me anywhere (*see note below), OR to take the financial responsibility (on their own) - to be sure their patient is happy and well taken care of.

Kind actions, such as this has instilled in me a new respect for the doctors/dentist here in Mazatlan. They come from a different "place" - one which may be derived from less politics - but one way or the other, you can feel and see the difference in the care they give you. They truly care for their patients and do what is needed to make things work for the best of the patient.

For this I say Thank you - It is nice to feel appreciated and cared for ~ as well as respected.

I now wonder how I would feel back in the states, having to pay ridiculous high prices for care that may not make me feel....."cared for"...After all, we are - the patient - the ones making the choices.... including who we pay for? And for me it includes how we are treated in ALL aspects. If I had a doctor that was unresponsive to my needs and questions - I would find a different doctor.

JUST for clarification ~~ I know there are good and bad doctors every where - I think the percentages are tipped in the patients favor here in Mexico..

*Notation from paragraph 4* I actually had this experience here in Mazatlan on Nov. 4th while in transportation from one hospital to another - after my fourth trip via ambulance ~ I was having my ct scan , when the ambulance had to go off to another call...the doctors gave me a ride back to the hospital in his personal car!!

Many Places

The Places

hear no one recognizes you there.

I have, however, been in
Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made

go, and I try not to
visit there too often.

I've been in Flexible, but
only when it was very important to stand firm.

Sometimes I'm in Capable,
and I go there more often as I'm getting older.

One of my favorite places
to be is in Suspense! It really gets the
adrenalin flowing and pumps up the
old heart!

I may have been in Continent, and I don't remember what
country I was in.

"One

I SO appreciate the out pour of love and correspondence - it has touched me deep with in my heart.

No fear - As I have the best medical team working with me, and am being well taken care of.

Last Thursday I had massive internal hemorrhaging - through the process I was told I was lucky to be alive on Friday. There are no words for an event like this, at least not for me. I feel an eternal gratefulness and a deep sense of appreciation for my medical team AND for my family and friends.

I am not completely through with this event - I was released on Sunday to come home; to regain my health, and become strong enough to have a complete hysterectomy and to attend to the source of bleeding in my small intestine. (which of course is now under control).

I can attest to this - the medical treatment I have been given here in Mexico has been completely satisfactory and given with such compassion - that one, will never waiver my belief in the medical system here.
AND I will never forget how lucky I am to have the most incredible family and family of friends ~

Thank you Everyone For Who You Are ~ And to The Best Medical Team a person could ask for

Cheap Beach Vacation

Have Your annual-check-up

and pay for your vacation!!

Cheap Beach vacation? Yes, you can have one!! However, we encountered a detour first, luckily it was A Cheap Detour~

But before we headed into the mountains (thank goodness) the front brake started smoking. Alright..... let me clarify...thank goodness it happened before we got into the mountains as after Copala - we were headed down, down, down to Panuco~

I will share more on Panuco in my next blogs - as this blog is about the great customer service and skilled mechanic in Villa Union!

You never really know what is going to happen at ANY mechanics..ANY where in the world - But it just happen to be the most knowledgeable mechanic I think I have dealt with here in Mexico and inexpensive!

His name is Beto, his family has been mechanic "ing" for generations - he rents out "Sanchez's shop" on the south side of the main road through Villa Union. The building is two story and is two toned blue.

He will also come to the isla to do work...not that we do not have a great mechanic here...I think Beto, may have a bit more experience though.

It took a few hours of work, and the parts - al for a grand total of 400 pesos! Yes, under $40.00!! A Cheap Detour indeed ~

Here the family is chilling (or trying to..it is still warm here!)

Don't mess with old people!

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE.

A an elderly man, from Norwich UK, was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"

He said "No," but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me.

Then the police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available."

George said, "Okay."

He hung up the phone and counted to 30.

Then he phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them." and he hung up.
Within five minutes, Six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Hewitson`s' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to Phillip, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"

Phillip said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Don't mess with old people!

Cruise Ships In Mazatlan ???

I get asked multiple times, on a weekly basis - IF the cruise ships are porting in Mazatlan...sadly, the answer is no...

Below is an email from a very active member...(if not the man who started it) of the MTA (the Mazatlan Tourist Aid group..I blogged about them before..here is a link to that blog if you missed it = Mazatlan Residents Speak Up )
I emailed Roger to see if it I could blog his email - as I found it powerful and of course resonate with his disgust of ignorance.

Not that I want to promote ignorance or anything like that...just the evidence that - it is going on...and it IS noticed...

Who will I be booking my family cruise with???? hmmm........ Lets see...

Thank you Roger for keeping us updated on "the goings" on!

Recently the port director for Mazatlan related that Carnival Cruise Lines

decided not to come because they had made 3 'surprise' visits to check on

the security they had demanded. Is it possible that the cruise company's are

really that ignorant? Hard to believe, but I can find no other explanation!

"Personnel from Carnival made three surprise visits to Mazatlán to check

security measures for cruise ship passengers, he went on to say, but they

did not see any police in the vicinity of the docks."

Really? No police in the vicinity of the docks you say? Could that possibly

be because there was NO CRUISE SHIP IN PORT? There were no police guarding

and protecting the cruise ship passengers who were not there?!?! How

strange!

If you go to the baseball stadium at say, 6:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, I bet

you will not find many baseball fans sitting in the seats at the stadium.

Why? Because there is NO BASEBALL GAME! Mazatlan baseball fans are smart

enough to not go to the stadium when there is no game. Too bad Carnival

personnel are not as smart as Mazatlan baseball fans.

I really hope someone at Carnival Cruise Lines gets someone to read this to them.
Well Roger, I do not know if they will read it..but I will send them a link on their Face Book page to today's blog

The Master Plan...of Amaitlan

Here it is, as promised. The slide show to the master plan of the future of Isla de la Piedra.

In a nutshell the developer, is wanting to create the first community in the world that would be....some say ...like the Garden of Eden ~

A place that recycles everything including rain water, has NO gasoline powered anything, is completely reliant on solar energy, sustainable gardening...oh the list goes on....

This is planned to be a 20 year project. You will notice that it includes some work in other areas, such as Mazatlan. I have heard this is why the sidewalks in Mazatlan are being re-bricked. Have you seen them? They are very nice.

You may have noticed that I keep on referring to .."it is said" - I say this to remind you that I am NOT sure of what is fact and what is fiction. But I have been gathering information since December of 2010 - and only am commenting on things that seem to be more credible.

Drum roll please.........https://skydrive.live.com/view.aspx/Slide show/Amaitlán.pps?cid=72bba781dff229d3&Bsrc=Docmail&Bpub=SDX.Docs

Is this the beginning of a new era Amaitlan or the end of the peace and tranquility of the Isla de la Piedra?

A No Show

In life there has been times that a "No Show" is not much appreciated.

For instance - As a massage therapist I book in clients - When a client is a "No Show" it is disappointing and costs me money (as normally you could have seen a different client).

So in this case - a" no show" is...disappointing to say the least.

But in the case of this blog, the "No Show" is a joyous occasion!! As all those silly LARGE storms brewing and mixing together, down south - Have pulled away and staying away from us ~ here in the Mazatlan area!!!

Goes to show us..that some No Shows are not so bad - - - Guess it is all in the perception.

The Calm Before the Storm

Our day goes on like any other day - with one change on our minds. DO we have enough drinking water, food, are the houses ready, am I forgetting something? As the next storm is out at sea, not so far away (well actually three storms) and phone calls of concern and emergency preparation are occurring.

The difference today is the ...quietness...I hear nothing outside other than a few tweeting birds....
Where are all the noises we usually hear??? Cars, horns, children, bells, people working...nothing... just a quiet eeriness...

My family and I have been through one tornado in Nebraska...it was similar to this...all quiet, pretty still ....then the sky turned green and things were chaotic - and then the stillness came back.

What is it about how calm everything is before a storm????
Is it meant to be a natural preparation to "alert us"? I will go with that...because it certainly is not a way to make you feel calm!! HECK NO!

Though calm everywhere else...the "calmness" outside is un-nerving!!
